National Velvet by Enid Bagnold-----Jenny Robinson
National Velvet is a story of a little girl who loves horses. Their family helper, Mi tells her all kinds of stories of The Grand National. Velvet ends up inheriting some horses and wins a piebald from a fair. Velvet puts them in the local gymkhana to have fun and do small racing. Velvet does well but the Piebald didn't. Eventually Velvet and Mi enter the Piebald in The Grand National. The book was pretty boring most of the way through until you got to the race. However it's still a good book and I think a young age group of horse lovers would love it. I thought it was just okay.
